News Feather Privacy Policy

Welcome to News Feather, a mobile application provided by Honest Ox, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our News Feather mobile application (the “App”) and our website at newsfeather.com (the “Website”). By using the App or Website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you sign up or log in using email, Google, Facebook, or Twitter/X, we collect:
    • Email address
    • Display name
    • Profile photo (if provided via Google, Facebook, Twitter/X, or uploaded by you)
    • Twitter/X ID and username (for Twitter/X sign-in)
    • First and last name (for email sign-up)
  • User Content: Photos you upload as your profile avatar.
  • Preferences: Notification settings you configure in the App.

b. Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage Data: Information about your interactions with the App, such as:
    • Posts you view or save
    • Search queries (for Ultimate subscribers)
    • Categories you select (for Ultimate subscribers)
    • App launches, taps, clicks, scrolling, and session duration
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and IP address.
  • Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized data about App usage, such as screen views and feature usage.
  • Crash and Performance Data: We use Firebase Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring to collect anonymized crash reports, launch times, hang rates, and energy usage to improve app stability and performance.

c. Advertising Data (Free Version)

  • For users on the free version of the App, we display ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use:
    • Device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID/IDFA)
    • IP address
    • Usage data (e.g., ad impressions, clicks, and interactions)
    • Approximate location (if permitted by your device settings)
  • This data may be used to serve personalized ads and measure ad performance. You can opt out of personalized ads via your device settings (Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization) or upgrade to News Feather Ultimate for an ad-free experience.

d. Subscription Information

  • For News Feather Ultimate subscribers, we collect payment-related information via Google Play Billing, such as purchase tokens and subscription status. We do not store full payment details (e.g., credit card numbers).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and personalize the App’s features, such as displaying news posts, saving stories, and managing your profile.
  • Authenticate your account via Firebase Authentication (email, Google, Facebook, Twitter/X).
  • Analyze usage, crashes, and performance to improve the App via Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring.
  • Store your profile photo in Firebase Storage and user data in Firestore.
  • Deliver ads to free version users via third-party ad networks.
  • Process and manage subscriptions for News Feather Ultimate via Google Play Billing.
  • Send notifications if enabled in your settings.
  • Analyze usage to improve the App via Firebase Analytics.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share your information as follows:

  • Service Providers:
    • Firebase (Google Cloud): For authentication, storage, database, analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring.
    • Google Play Billing: For processing subscription payments.
    • Third-party ad networks (free version only): To deliver and personalize ads (e.g., Google AdMob).
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information to comply with laws, respond to legal requests, or protect our rights.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale, your information may be transferred.

4. Third-Party Advertising (Free Version)

The free version of the App includes ads served by third-party ad networks, such as Google AdMob. These partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or other tracking technologies to collect data for personalized ads. Our third-party advertising partner (Google AdMob) may use the collected data to personalize ads and measure advertising effectiveness. AdMob may combine this data with other data it collects across apps for these purposes. You can manage ad personalization settings on your device:

  • To opt out of ads entirely, upgrade to News Feather Ultimate for an ad-free experience.

5. Your Choices

  • Account Information: Update your email, display name, or profile photo in the App’s Profile & Settings section.
  • Notifications: Enable or disable notifications in the App’s settings.
  • Ads: Opt out of personalized ads via your device settings or upgrade to News Feather Ultimate.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures, including Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud encryption, to protect your data. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.
  • Usage and analytics data may be retained in anonymized form for analysis.
  • You can request data deletion by contacting us.
  • Crash and performance data may be retained in anonymized form for up to 2 years to analyze trends and improve stability.

8. Children’s Privacy

News Feather is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, contact us to have it removed.

9. International Users

The App and Website are hosted in the United States. If you use the App from outside the U.S., your data may be transferred to and processed in the U.S., subject to U.S. laws.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or email. The updated policy will be posted at newsfeather.com/privacy-policy.
