Supreme Court will not take up gay marriage cases

SCOTUS decides not to hear 5 same-sex marriage cases

  1. Gay marriage bans in 11 states were ruled unconstitutional.
  2. 5 states challenged the ruling hoping to keep their ban.
  3. Those 5 challenges were headed to the Supreme Court.
  4. Surprisingly, SCOTUS declined to rule on them.
  5. That means the bans in the 5 states remain unconstitutional.
  6. Same-sex couples in those 5 states can get married.
  7. The other 6 states’ bans will also remain unconstitutional.
  8. Same-sex marriage will now be legal in 30 states.
