A short history of Cinco de Mayo.

1. In the mid-1800’s, Mexico fought in 2 different wars.
2. The Mexican-American War and the Reform War.
3. Bankrupt, President Juarez ceased all foreign debt payments.
4. So France, Britain, and Spain sent naval ships to Mexico.
5. Britain and Spain negotiated. The French attacked.
6. But a small force of Mexican soldiers in Puebla defeated them.
7. It was a huge morale boost for Mexican resistance.
