The facebook experiment

  1. Facebook has 1.23 billion monthly users.
  2. In 2012 they experimented with about 700,000 of their users–without them knowing.
  3. Facebook intentionally showed these users more negative or more positive posts from their friends.
  4. The purpose was to see if these posts influenced people’s moods.
  5. FB didn’t write or change the posts. The experiment lasted 7 days.
  6. This experiment is generally seen as unethical. Plus, the results were unimpressive.
  7. Facebook appologized for it. People are still pretty bummed about it.
