European Space Agency makes history today

Philae has become the first spacecraft to successfully land on a comet

  1. The Rosetta Spacecraft launched its probe, called Philae.
  2. Philae successfully landed on the surface of comet 67P.
  3. This is the first time in history a craft has landed on a comet.
  4. Philae is about the size of a home washing machine.
  5. Its 2 harpoons, meant to anchor it to the comet, failed to fire.
  6. Philae may have bounced making its orientation unclear.
  7. Philae could drill into the comet & begin studying it Thursday.
