Tens of thousands protest for democracy

People are protesting in Hong Kong following a Beijing law that says they can only elect pre-approved candidates.

  1. Hong Kong was a British colony until they gave it back in ‘97.
  2. The deal was that for 50 years HK would govern itself.
  3. China is an autocracy which means it’s ruled by 1 party.
  4. People in HK don’t want China telling them what to do.
  5. In July, 500k people marched for democracy in HK.
  6. Now, China says HK can only elect pre-approved candidates.
  7. Tens of thousands of people are protesting in HK this week.
