• Captives were held in Borno State, Boko Haram’s stronghold.
• Boko Haram has killed ~5,500 people since 2014.

• Buhari, a former military ruler, pledged to defeat Boko Haram.
• He fired and replaced all of the military leaders in the army.
• Buhari met with Obama in July to discuss arms embargo.
• The US considering lifting ban on sale of weapons to Nigeria.
